A TOTAL of 581 police recruits over the weekend passed out from the Police Public Safety School in Pwalugu in the Talensi District in the Upper East Region.

Out of this number of new recruits, 327 are females and 254 males.

The recruits have gone through six months of training in weapon handling and modern policing.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Steven Yakubu, in his address to the parade, encouraged the recruits to continue implementing all the best practices they have been taught and at all times remain loyal to Ghana and exhibit professionalism.

According to him, the new police officers are joining the Ghana Police Service at a time the country is faced with many security challenges, including armed robberies, smuggling, human trafficking and deliberate disrespect for road regulations.

“I am confident that you will discharge your duties accordingly as professionals to stop the occurrence of crime in our communities and highways,” Mr. Yakubu added.

He commended the recruits for enduring the pain and staying throughout the training duration and also committing themselves to maintain peace and order in society.

Director-General in charge of Welfare at the Ghana Police Service, Maame Tiwaa Addo Danquah was happy with the efforts that commanding officers, trainers and supporting staff of the training school put into the training of the new police officers, and urged the new recruits to also put in more effort to maintain peace and order wherever they find themselves after their training.

She urged the new officers to maintain a good relationship with members of the public and be professional in dealing with them, adding, “Bear in mind that you cannot succeed in your efforts to protect lives and properties without respecting members of the public. Never let your new status get you carried away to engage in acts which will bring shame and dishonour to yourselves, family, the Police Service and Ghana as a whole.”
