A gun left by armed robbers at a robbery scene has led to their arrest by the police.

The robbers took over the main Nkawie-Kobeng road in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region and robbed passengers of their valuables, including money and mobile phones.

The incident happened on Friday, June 11, 2021 around 11pm.

In the course of the robbery, some of the victims recognised one of the robbers, so he (robber) in an attempt to quickly leave the robbery scene mistakenly left his gun behind.

A police report, which confirmed the story, said the Nkawie Police Patrol Team rushed to the robbery scene but unfortunately the robbers had already left with their booty.

It said the robbery victims, who were in about four vehicles, handed over the robber’s single barrel gun to the police who immediately started investigations into the case.

The police said their investigations led to arrest of all the three robbers who attacked the passengers and one other suspect.

The names of the suspects have been withheld by police for security reasons.

The police report said, “On June 11, 2021 at about 11pm, we received information that robbery was ongoing on Nkawie-Kobengroad. Nkawie Police Patrol proceeded to scene.

“Upon reaching there, they met Ntim Francis, a forestry personnel with bruises on his face in charge of an unregistered motorbike.

“Kwadwo Boateng was in charge a Sprinter bus, registered AS 3970-20, Kofi Albert in charge of Nissan March car, registered AS 4327-13 and Abubakar Kwabena in charge of KIA Might truck, registered AW 885-17.”

The report further said there were passengers (mourners) on board each car, which were all coming from Ahwerewa towards Nkawie, for a funeral.

The police report said, “On reaching a section of the road near Seidi, they were attacked and robbed by three masked armed men. The robbers made away with their mobile phones and unspecified sums of money.

“One of the suspects left behind a single barrel gun when he realised he has been identified by some passengers, since he (robber) is a resident in the community.”

The report added,“With the assistance of the community members, four suspects have been arrested and are in custody together with the retrieved gun.”
