They say the best reward for success is more work, and that is exactly the lane Love Ndarake has chosen after her recent victory at the Calabar Ladies Open Golf Championship.
The win in Calabar at the weekend was the former caddy’s first success since embracing the sport in 2012. Speaking on her success in Calabar, a jubilant Ndareke said, “It was a big surprise for me – my first tournament victory. I never dreamed of it; but it happened and I am very happy about it.”
The Port Harcourt Golf Club member, who played her first competitive game in 2019 at the UBTH Ladies Open Championship in Benin City, however, expressed concerns over her performance.
Playing off handicap 9, the Akwa Ibom State-born golfer grossed 182 (88, 94) over two days to beat her closest rivals for the title; Jennifer Rimlinger grossed 189 (104, 85) and Eunice Egwuatu, 192 (95, 97) for the second and third positions respectively.
“While I am happy that I won, my performance I must say wasn’t good enough at all. I started badly in Day-1 with 88+ and in Day-2 I played worst – 94+; yet I won; but it’s okay, in every tournament everyone wants to win and the winner is always the best,” she said.
Ndareke was part of the Rivers State Golf Team that won bronze medals at the just concluded Edo 2020 National Sports Festival (NSF) held in Benin City.
Speaking on the championship, Lady Captain of the Calabar Golf Club, Emah Anthony, said, “I am glad at the success of the championship. It was peaceful, everybody had good time and it ended on a good note; all the grey areas observed will be corrected accordingly.”
