Kenyans abroad are changing their lives for the best in America. Most of them were students but later turned to businessmen and women. Others started eateries, clotheslines, shipping companies, companies, schools, truck businesses, and funeral services. However many people are making a lot of money through their hard work.
Her father had traveled to the UK in the 90s and do he had already made a way for her daughter. Having lived in the UK for a long time he had invested much in his career. In 2006 his daughter relocated to the UK. First, she was to continue with her education and later follow her passion. Upon completing her teaching course she never washed her time in finding a job.
She embarked on her cooking. Luckily from a young age, her grandmother always showed her how to cook. And by posting her foods online many Kenyans loved her work. Many people offered jobs. But because the demand was high she decided to open a restaurant in Northern London. The start was not easy because it required a lot of capital.
Fortunately, her father supported her economically and physically. Margaret was able to start her restaurant called Kenya’s Kitchen. Some years down the line the restaurant is doing great. Margaret adds that for you to start a hotel in America you need all the licenses, be hygienic, value your customers, offer good services.
Luckily people from all walks of the world meet there to taste her dishes. Her dishes include nyama choma, pilau, viazi karai, maharagwe ya nazi, samaki, ugali, tea, and other dishes. Margaret adds that most people love Kenyan Nyama Choma. The only problem she encounters is getting the raw materials needed for cooking. Most of them she buys in the supermarket while many spices are shipped from Kenya.
“People from other countries only know Kenya for Safaris and athletics. They never know about Kenyan foods. But through exposure, many people are appreciating Kenyan foods.” She adds. Margaret has also created a lot of employment. Through her many people are changing their lives.
At 29 years the sky is the limit. She hopes to fly high in the near future.
