Justice Mary Odili’s Daughter And Three Other Children of Judges Who Are High Court Judges

A lot of young Nigerians have continued to make the country proud in different fields of human endeavors, both home and abroad. it is often a regular occurrence, especially in this part of the world, for children to take after their parents. In other words, we have seen a lot of children venture into the same profession/career as their parents, especially in areas their parents had excelled and left indelible legacies.

Therefore, we are taking a look at some of the Nigerian Justices, whether active or retired, whose children are making great waves just like their parents in the same career as judiciary workers. This includes the daughter of one of the most senior Supreme Court Judges in the country, in the person of Justice Mary Odili.

Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme:

She is the daughter of the second most senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Mary Odili. Njideka was appointed into the FCT judiciary in March 2015, according to Punch newspaper. Prior to her inauguration as a judge of the Federal High Court in November 2021, she used to be a Magistrate at the Wuse Zone-6 Magistrate court.

According to the Peoples Gazette, Justice Njideka is equally married to the son of a former court of appeal judge, justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme. Meanwhile, recall that Njideka is equally the daughter of the former Governor of Rivers State and a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Odili.

According to Punch newspaper, she’s the daughter of a former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa. Just like justice Njideka, she was equally inaugurated as a judge of the Abuja division of the Federal High Court of Nigeria in November 2021.

Though much is not known about Justice Fatima, but her mother is a notable name in the country’s judiciary. For instance, her mother (Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa) served in the judiciary for over forty years, during which she became the first Nigerian woman to be appointed President of the country’s Courts of Appeal. She equally presided over many election petition tribunals in the country, according to International Center for Investigative Reporting, ICIR.

Justice Mimi Katsina-Alu Apena:

She’s the daughter of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), late Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu. Currently, she’s a judge at the Federal High Court, Abuja. According to the Peoples Gazette, she and about twenty (20) others were sworn-in as high court judges on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Ibrahim Muhammad Tanko.

Recall that her father, late Justice Katsina-Alu was on November 25, 1998 sworn-in as one of the Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, and on December 30, 2009, he was appointed the 11th Chief Justice of Nigeria. After clocking the mandatory retirement age of 70, he bowed out of service in August 2011, and subsequently died in July 2018 after a brief illness.

Justice Hafsat Abba-Aliyu:

Hafsat is the daughter of a judge of the Nigerian Supreme Court, Justice Uwani Abba-Aji. Meanwhile, Hafsat was sworn-in as a Magistrate in March 2015 and was among those appointed as judges of the Federal High Court in November 2021, according to the Peoples Gazette.

Though her name may not be that popular yet, but her mother, Justice Abba-Aji has quite a high profile in the Nigerian judiciary. She has held a lot of lofty and enviable positions in the country, for instance, in December 1991, she was appointed judge of a Higher Court in Yobe State Judiciary, making her the first Lady Judge at Yobe State Judiciary. Then in 2004, she became a judge of court of appeal, while she was elevated as Justice of the Supreme Court in 2019.

Justice Ibrahim Mohammed:

The 41 year old is the son of a former grand-khadi of the FCT, according to the International Centre for Investigative Reporting. Further, the report revealed that Ibrahim is a native of Buji LGA of Jigawa State.

He was reportedly appointed into the Abuja Judiciary in 2005, and prior to his inauguration as a high Court judge in November 2021, he served as a senior Magistrate at Wuse Zone-6 Magistrate court, Abuja.
