The six died between 2012 and 2018, mostly with the help of a hitman to profit from life insurance payments. The 46-year-old woman was eventually arrested after someone she hired to kill her sister went to the police.
The first to be killed was her cousin, Witness Madala Homu, in March 2012. Then her sister, boyfriend, nephew and two nephews were killed. Her last victim, Brilliant Mashego, died in January 2018.
In most cases, he hired killers to carry out the murders, but in 2013 he poisoned and strangled his sister Audrey Somisa Ndlow. A series of murders ended after he contacted someone in March 2018 to kill another sister and her five children.
The man he hired alerted the police, who then carried out an operation to record their conversation about the plot. Nomia Rosemary Ndlovu can be heard talking about the six people who were burned alive at home and saying he needed the money.
