There are friends and then there are true friends as radio and TV presenter Benson Gathungu alias Muthee Kiengei learnt during the time his family was mourning.
Kiengei who works for Kameme FM and TV lost his father Mzee Joseph Ndirangu (Toria) at the age of 90 years.
The last born in a family of 18 told mourners during the burial how friends he met in the city stood with him, some spending days at his home.

One of them is nominated Senator Isaac Ngugi (IG) who despite his status had no qualms making himself comfortable on the floor at Kiengei’s house after beds were fully occupied by other friends.
Ngugi did not force to have some comfortable bed made for him, instead he what some other friends did.
Since he lost his father on December 21, friends had kept vigil at his home, some having to endure staying in dirty clothes as they went there without packing some for changing.
Kiengei said many were shocked by how Ngugi IG took things easy when situation forced him to nap on the floor.

At one point Kiengei’s brother stunned by the humility asked the brother to clarify to him if the man was a real Senator or just a nickname he prefixed.
“My brother called me behind the house and asked me if Ngugi was a real Senator. I asked him why he was enquiring that. He said he wondered how can he sleep on the floor. When I told him he is indeed a serving senator, he was shocked” Kiengei said.
Mzee Toria got sick three years ago and was in and out of hospital until he passed on days to Christmas.
He was laid to rest yesterday at Engineer in Nyandarua County in an event attended by hundreds of people.
