Dusse Florence, a 37-year-old woman has been held by the Aburi Police command of the Eastern Region for stabbing her husband with a wine bottle. Dusse, arrested this morning, had denied stabbing the husband intentionally but only did it to protect herself.
The victim, Yaw Anthony Bawa, is still at the Koforidua Regional Hospital receiving treatment after he was referred from St. Charles Hospital last night. Bawa who has undergone two surgeries will undergo a third surgery somewhere on Saturday 1 January 2022 to clear his eyes of the debris.

Case Study
Dusse Florence, the wife of Yaw Anthony Bawa, was home on 24 December when Bawa came back drunk. It was after a carol night service when Dusse set eyes on her husband. Dusse accused Bawa of abandoning her in church and making her stranded on the 24 December night but the drunk Bawa, lifted his hands and started beating Dusse for questioning his whereabouts.
Bawa under the influence of alcohol, don’t remember anything he did on the 24 December night but Dusse, narrated that, Bawa slapped her four times and pinched her to their dining hall table before beating her with blows. His blows were heavy and made me frightened.
I picked the wine bottle on the table and hit his head, but he still came back after me. He was drunk, but he knew what he was doing. He couldn’t have beaten me that way if he was fully drunk. Though he was drunk but was in control of what he was doing, Dusse Florence said in her statement this morning.
Dusse had on the night of 24 December, questioned her husband where he had been when they had agreed to attend the 24 carol night church service together. Bawa who was drunk and couldn’t remember anything that happened that night, went after his wife and started beating her.
Dusse with the help of a glass bottle hit Bawa on the head and got away, but Bawa caught up with her in their living room and pinched her down in another fight. Dusse with the bottle, made sharp cuts on Bawa’s feet to get away but the drunk Bawa could not feel the cut.
The foot cuts didn’t stop him, so I fought back to save myself. He could have killed me if I didn’t fight back. It wasn’t intentional to deform him but it was a life and death situation. He had his hands around my neck and I couldn’t do anything except stab him with the bottle, Dusse said in her statement.
Dusse after the fights with her husband, made three calls to her brothers and together, Bawa was taken to the St. Charles Medical centre at Obosomase where Bawa was given a first aid treatment before his referral to the Koforidua Regional Hospital. The family of Dusse had sought to keep the matter low, but the sisters of Bawa Anthony after seeing their brother out of the theatre this morning, reported the incident to the Aburi Police.
Florence Dusse was still at the police station and hasn’t made any attempts to seek bail. It is rumoured her family is working behind closed doors to secure bail for her and take the case out of the police station but the sisters of Bawa, has made their grounds to see Florence jailed for stabbing their brother.
