When it comes to fuel costs, taxation, and unemployment rate, as well as other government measures, they have always been sensitive issues in the country. While these are some of the policies that drive a country’s economy, their discussion and implementation have always sparked heated debate among citizens who are, in the end, affected by them.
Even while governments try their hardest to make things work, every country encounters economic issues from time to time. When these problems develop, citizens make every effort to hold their leaders accountable for their actions. Some citizens use legal demonstrations and others use alternative tactics to communicate their opinion in their country in other to express their dissatisfaction with the administration. Tilapia Da Cartoonist is one of the persons who has always been vocal about some of the policies in this country.
Using his talent once more, the cartoonist has created a caricature depicting the President denying responsibility for some of the country’s economic problems. Despite the fact that the artwork was intended to be humourous, it contains deeper messages in its details. The President is portrayed standing behind a pulpit at his party’s national delegates conference, carrying a guitar and singing to a crowd in the animation.
“Economic hardship: not my fault,” was the title of the song he was shown singing. We don’t know if Tilapia Da Cartoonist has another hidden musical skill, but in this latest cartoon, he incorporated some of the country’s social concerns to produce musical lyrics that his character appears to be singing in the picture.
The President looks to be singing along with the following lyrics while holding his guitar in his hand:Â
‘Fuel price hikes (It wasn’t me)
Govt. payroll choke (It wasn’t me)
Youth unemployment (It wasn’t me)
Borrowing to survive (It wasn’t me)
E-levy (It wasn’t me)
Even caught me showering in the sky
(It wasn’t me)’.
It appears that the popular illustrator based the lyrics on some of the more contentious themes. Since the ruling party announced the E-levy, it has been a heated topic. Some people support the policy, while others do not.
Another contentious word in the lyrics was “fuel prices,” which has long been a big source of concern for citizens since when fuel prices rise, so do the prices of other items.
