As I was busily making research about what to here for my followers and views I decided to talk about the health benefits of “kontomire” which we normally use for stew in our daily meals.

The above mentioned leaves are normally used by most of our African ladies to prepare stew and soup.

It is a starchy edible tuber, it bears broad greenish leaves, it grows in several places around the world and we usually consume the root tubers.

Without wasting much time let’s take at some of the health benefits below.

It boosts immune system:

one cup of cocoyam leaves contains about 24kmg vitamins, that is about 86% of our body daily requirements.

This will help boost immune system effectively.

prevention of cancer:

The leaves are rich in vitamin C.

the vitamin acts as an antioxidant which fight against free radicals that cause cancer.

Healthy eyes:

cocoyam leaves are rich in vitamin A in addition to vitamin C. The amount of vitamin A can be seen as high as 123% of our daily requirements and it is very good for the eyes to stay healthy and maintain visual acuity.

Also it prevent eye diseases such as myopia, cataract and blindness.

Blood tonic:

Boil the leave A about 7 to 10 mins, slice raw tomatoes (it should be local tomatoes) and add water and drink it.

Helps in digestion and prevents digestive problems:

The high dietary fiber in the leave A helps in food digestion and absorption, it also prevent digestive problems such as indigestion, constipation and diarrhoea.

Note:

boil the leaves for about 7 to 10 minutes to prevent itchy throat when drunk.
