Five men who are alleged to be armed robbers have been beaten to death by residents in Anyinawusu and Kotokuom in Antwi Mponua of the Ashanti region. Residents of Anyinawusu and Kotokuom have suffered at the hands of armed robbers for some weeks now. A few days ago, two drivers and two motorists were attacked by armed robbers but they survived.
Because of this, the two towns and other neighbouring communities have set up Volunteer groups to fish out these armed robbers hiding in their area. They were notified by those who were attacked that the armed robbers were hiding in a nearby bush so the volunteers decided to approach and question anybody in their community who seems to be lost.
Six men who were riding on one motorcycle were seen by the volunteers in Anyinawusu and they were approached. During the questioning, they seem not to be giving concrete answers so they took the visitors to their Palace. The volunteers suspected them to be thieves so they communicated with others volunteers in the neighbouring villages.
The Chief and elders of the town questioned them but were found wanting. The Chief ordered for the men who were attacked to come and identify the men. The victims identified 5 out of the 6 of them as the armed robbers who attacked them. The Chief wanted to take the alleged armed robbers to the Police, so he hid them in a room.
Unfortunately, residents from Kotokuom and other villages had come to Anyinawusu with sticks and cutlasses to attack the armed robbers. They broke the room in which the robbers were hiding and they beat them up mercilessly.
The residents cut the throat of one of the robbers and they hit another’s head with a block of wood having nails on it. Five of the alleged thieves were killed instantly and the other although was beaten, was not killed because he was not identified as those who robbed the residents.  Â
