We all know Ghana gained it’s Independence in 1957 and became a Republic in 1960 with Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah being the first Prime Minister and President of the country.
In today’s #ThrowbackThursday edition, I bring to you some former leaders of the country and their partner’s. These president’s are Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, General Joseph Ankrah, Edward Akufo-Addo, and Ignatius Kutu Acheampong. Let’s see the spouse(s) of these great leader’s below;
Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah
Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was the prime minister of Gold Coast in 1952 and became the president of Ghana in 1960. He was married to Fathia Halim Ritzk who came from Egypt. They tied the knot at the Christianborg Castle in Osu, Accra during New Year’s Eve in 1957.
General Joseph Ankrah
Gen. Joseph Ankrah was a Lieutenant and became Lieutenant Colonel in 1947 and later Brigadier in 1961. His married life was not really specific but he had eight (8) wives and had eighteen (18) children with these women.
Edward Akufo-Addo
Edward Akufo-Addo was president of Ghana from 31st August, 1970 to January 13th, 1972. He was married to Adeline Y. Akufo-Addo and they had four (4) children together.
Ignatius Kutu Acheampong
I.K. Acheampong was president from 1972 to June 1979 where he was executed by the firing squad. He was married to Mrs. Faustina Acheampong and no history of child bearing is known between them.
