Arsenal 2-0 West Ham
Arsenal moved into the top four of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over West Ham at the Emirates Stadium, with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe.
Three minutes into the second half, Martinelli put the Gunners ahead before Vladimir Coufal was sent off for a challenge on Alexandre Lacazette, reducing West Ham to ten men.
Ex-Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski saved Lacazette’s penalty in the 69th minute, but substitute Smith Rowe doubled the hosts’ advantage with three minutes remained in normal time.
Arsenal overtake the Hammers into fourth place after their second win in five days, despite the absence of now-ex-captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang due to a breach of discipline.
Crystal Palace 2-2 Southampton
Saints are pegged back in the second half and can only manage a solitary point after a 2-2 draw under the lights at Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park.
Despite a Wilfried Zaha opener inside two minutes, it appeared like a quickfire, magical James Ward-Prowse free-kick and excellent Armando Broja long-shot had turned over Palace, but Jordan Ayew’s straightforward second-half equaliser saw the spoils shared.
Saints remain winless on the road this season, with no victories in their last six Premier League games.
Ralph Hasenhuttl made four changes, including Will Smallbone making his first Premier League start since suffering an ACL injury in January, Oriol Romeu returning from suspension, and Lyanco replacing Jan Bednarek in defence.
Broja’s playing time was limited to 70 minutes, and Hasenhuttl replaced him with Shane Long, while Smallbone was replaced by Moussa Djenepo, who made his first appearance since October.
As the clock ticked down on the search for a winner, Theo Walcott came in for Nathan Tella, with neither side looking poised to score.
