The African National Congress is going through a rough patch financially and this has seemingly rubbed off onto their top members and leaders. The party has failed to pay their staff at Luthuli house salaries for well over four months now. This is according to funders and donors no longer feeling safe to fund as the party as their identities are now being published. The ANC wallet has run dry and money is tight.

Meanwhile, ANC presidential hopeful Mathews Phosa has been given an ultimatum by Standard Bank – either he surrenders the R3-million Bentley he bought on credit or risk losing his house.

Phosa, the former ANC treasurer-general, is also failing to pay over R320 000 in overdraft and almost R50 000 in credit card debt.

The titbits are contained in court papers filed in the Joburg High Court last week.

Phosa has not commented on the matter, while he is said to have businesses, it is not clear whether or not his businesses are doing well.
