Early today BBC news, reports on how Amazon warehouse in Illinois, US State got attacked by a tornado and as a result, six workers met their untimely death.
Per the report, it was established that the Tornado took a hit on the roof of the warehouse which led to the death of six workers. The report also made it clear that the Tornado warnings were alerted 21 minutes ago before the building got struck by it (the Tornado warning was received at 20:06 and attacked between 20:27). This lead to questions being raised as to why the building was not cleared off since there were approximately 20 minutes or so for the workers to vacate from the premises.
Now, Amazon has come out to make a statement concerning this disaster. In their statement, they said ” their team worked incredibly quickly to ensure as many employees and partners could reach the safe place” which is the company’s shelter.
Per Amazon statement also, they made it clear that the workers received the tornado warning on their mobile phones which directed them to move to a designated and marked sheltered location which they did but some small group of workers took theirs in some part of the building which was hit by the tornado.
Aside from the Amazon tragedy the report made by BBC also claims that the deadly storm swept through six US states on Friday evening (10th December 2021) causing the deaths of almost 100 people and damaging homes, businesses over a 200-mile area. Eight deaths were was confirmed in another factory.Â
However, Amazon has again released a statement stating that they will be donating $1m (£757,000) in providing relief supplies including transport, water, and food concerning this tragedy.
