A 48 years old charcoal maker was arrested by the police in Seikwa in the Tain District of the Bono region for allegedly destroying the car window of a Bank Manager in the town with a stone.
The Bank Manager, Emmanuel Ofori together with his men beat up Abubakar Bahala for destroying the manager’s car window. After several beatings, they called the Police to arrest. However, Abubakar was able to break the handcuff the Police put on his hands.
This made the Policemen angry and they tied him to a mango tree in front of the Police station and beat him up mercilessly. In the night when they kept him at the Police cells, he died. Three Policemen by the name of Chief Inspector Eric Aholo Corporal Williams Agbozome, and Constable Ebenezer Akuffo carried the deceased body and put him in a polythene bag.
They went and secretly buried him at the Cemetery in Seikwa. Abubakar belonged to a group of men who smoked “wee” together. When his gang members realized he was nowhere to be found after the police arrested him, they charged the Policemen who quickly went to exhume the body and took it to the death care mortuary in Sunyani.
The Policemen were interdicted and went on remand. After an autopsy, it was revealed that Abubakar died as a result of the beatings given to him by the Policemen. Nonetheless, the Policemen were granted bail after the intervention of the Attorney General.
The Policemen went back to perform their duties after killing a man, but the case is still in court. However, it is reported that one of the Policemen involved in the case has passed on after they were granted bail.
