When Are UCC Sandwich Students Reporting To Campus?

Students pursuing Bachelor of Education programmes under the University of Cape Coast College of Distance Education Programme are currently flustered about the exact date to report to campus.

Their confusion stems from the fact that they are being told by the Ghana Education Service (GES) who is their employer to remain in school until December 17, 2021.

Prior to this new directive, all basic schools were to vacate this week starting with the junior high school vacating on 7th December 2021 and followed by KG ad Primary on Friday 10th December 2021 for Christmas holidays.

Also, based on this vacation date (which has been changed) the Management of the University of Cape Coast scheduled the second semester academic activities to begin on 12th December 2022 and end in January 2022 for their students doing the 3/4/5 Semester programmes in the various study centres.

Now, with the new date given by GES, the majority of students are inconclusive about the exact date to report to school. Because, should they leave school and report to campus on 12th December, they will not be in tandem with their employer’s directive and might bring some unforeseen problems to them.

On the other hand, should they remain in school, they will miss semester activities on campus which include quizzes, assignments, revision, and others. With this confusion, the SRC of the various centres are also in disarray about what to tell their students.

My submission

In order not to get confused, I believe the University of Cape Coast is well-informed about the current development. Usually, what they will do is this; permission will be sought from GES to allow their students to report to school on 12th December 2021.

When this is done, GES will then issue a letter to the District Directors of Education informing them to allow the affected teachers to report to campus, whereas head teachers assign their roles to a different teacher.

Furthermore, if this is not done, students are advised to write a letter to their District Directors asking permission to absent themselves from school as they report to campus.

In addition, if all the two is undone, UCC will reschedule the second semester activities again to a favorable date to allow students to have their peace of mind.
