The first deputy speaker of parliament Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu may have landed himself in trouble again after he made comments about the minority caucus which the NDC describes as offensive.
In an interview with Joynews over the weekend, the MP for Bekwai said the actions of the minority on the floor of parliament on Wednesday were unparliamentary. He called on them to render unqualified apology to Ghanaians for the misconduct.
But the NDC MPs found the comments of the deputy speaker who recently pronounced that he was not the speaker offensive. According to Hon. ABA Fuseini the statement by the NPP MP was untenable and shouldn’t be allowed to go unchecked.
The NDC caucus has served notice that it will be filing a motion for a parliametary probe into the actions of the first deputy speaker that lead to the chaotic scene Ghanaians witnessed on Wednesday as well as his comments during the interview.
Reporting for Joynews Pulse monitored by CitizenOne today, Paa Kawsi Parkar Wilson said the NDC MPs have stated that they will also file a second motion to set aside the ruling on the motion.
The minority believed strongly that the decision of the speaker to rule on a motion without allowing it to go through voting was unconstitutional and same must to expunged from the records of parliament.
It will be recalled that on Wednesday, the first deputy speaker of parliament sitting in as acting speaker threw away a motion filed by Hon. Haruna Iddrisu. According to the speaker, article 109 of 1992 constitution argument does not apply to him. He stated that he was an MP and not the Speaker.
This statement caused chaos in the house leading to the snatching of the seat of the Speaker by one of the MPs from the minority side.
The first deputy speaker has since not appeared in parliament leaving all proceedings for the second deputy speaker to preside.
