A former Member of Parliament for Tema East constituency, Honourable Daniel Nii Kwartey Titus Glover has advised government to engage the leadership of the Minority Caucus in Parliament over the brouhaha surrounding the approval of the budget. He believes that, the leaders are not exceptional as a proper consensus could help end the impasse in the Chamber.
According to the Lawyer and politician, he believes firmly in the principles of Minority Leader Honourable Haruna Iddrisu and that he [Haruna Iddrisu] has no plans to shame or disappoint the government. He posits that the Minority though might have dissenting opinions about government policies but a proper consultation and engagement could promote proper relations in the Chamber.
His comments follow the brouhaha that have emerged in Parliament after the modified edition of the budget was presented by the Finance Minister to the Speaker of Parliament. It is on record that the minority has raised concerns over the government’s failure to scrap the electronic transactions levy despite the numerous changes made.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen show hosted by Osei Bonsu today, December 7, 2021, the former lawmaker Titus Glover was optimistic that government could only end the stalemate in Parliament through engagement with leaders of the Minority Caucus especially Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka Mubarak.
According to him, it is about time all members of Parliament work collectively to develop the nation instead of engaging in unnecessary banters over policy proposals. Titus Glover indicated that, what is happening in the Chamber is not alien to our democracy and should be solved amicably.
Speaking further, Honourable Titus Glover shared his belief in the budget presented by the government. According to him, the infamous E-levy tax would help increase the revenue for development. He said, “I have seen what is going on in the house but it is simply solvable. It is the best choice of the government to engage the leaders of the Minority. Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka are not ready to disappoint or betray the government. Try and talk to them to solve this.”
