The finance Minster Ken Ofori Atta addressed the nation yesterday 6th December 2021 and elaborated much on the budget that has become a bone of contention in the floor of Parliament. Ever since the budget was read, the minority have stood on grounds and decided not to accept especially with the issue of Electronic Levy. According to the minority, things are not going on smoothly in the country due to hardship as a result of escalating taxes and prices of commodities. So government adding E-Levy to already existent problems will cause more harm than good to the people of Ghana. The minority have since not come into consensus with the government for the implementation of the 2022 budget.
In the press briefing, the Honourable Minister made certain revelations that, accepting the E-Levy will go a long way to generate income for the country. When that is done, the country will be able to get enough funds to curb the unemployment rate and create more jobs. He further posited that, in order for these things to be actualized it will take sacrifice and burden sharing as one people with a common goal. This and many more he revealed in accordance with the recent electronic transaction levy which is yet to be implemented in the year 2022.
He further stated that, if the budget is not accepted by the Parliament, there is a possibility of a shut down of government operations. He said if peradventure the budget is boycotted, the consequences that will follow will not be pleasant. This is why he has entreated the general public to bear with the government because the electronic levy is a blessing in disguise. Parliament is still debating over the acceptance of the 2022 Agyenkwa Budget. We are keenly following to see what will unfold at the end of the day.
