The Management of Ghana Education Service has announced that all Basic schools in Ghana are no longer vacating on 10th December 2021 as previously scheduled by the GES academic Calendar.
In a post shared on GES official Facebook page on Monday 6th December 2021, it said that the vacation for this third term is now scheduled for Friday 17th December 2021.
“National Standardised Test for P4 will be written on the 17th of December 2021.As a result all Basic schools will vacate on the 17th.” The statement said.
According to the post, the extra one week will be compensated for during the next academic year to ensure students and teachers enjoy the number of weeks of vacation period.
This above release is to enable class four pupils across the length and breadth of the country participate in the maiden edition of the National Standardized Test.
What Should Headteachers And Teachers Do?
Further directive indicates that All headteachers and primary teachers should help and support in the preparation of the basic four learner for the upcoming maiden National Standardized Test all.
Headteachers are tasked to convey the information to the parents of all the learners in class four. This will enable the parents to also prepare their wards.
The Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei-Adutwum has disclosed on June 6 2021 that government in its quest to build a robust education system will introduce a National Standardised Test for pupils at the basic level in the country.
He was Speaking on the topic “President Akufo-Addo’s Education Agenda: Four years and Beyond” on Sunday, Mr Adutwum stated that all primary four students in Ghana will be the first batch to undergo the just introduced initiative.
He said the test does not only seek to improve learning outcomes but also reduce learning poverty across the country.
According to him, pupils waiting 11 years before they sit for their first national exams, Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), makes it too late to rectify the vast literacy poverty recorded yearly.
The standardized test was intially scheduled for November but has delayed.
