Information reaching Bricy Boateng from a reliable source reveals that all the public basic schools in the country except junior high are to remain in school for an additional week.

The purpose of this is to make way for the implementation of the National Standardized Test to assess all basic four learners across the country. The test is scheduled to take place on Friday, 17th December 2021.

District Directors of Education are to properly inform head teachers including primary four 4 teachers of the new development and put measures in place to ensure the successful conduct of the test.

Before this, a form was distributed to heads of schools to enter the data of all primary four learners which included their names, ages, and gender which the District Education Directorate will use the to know the number of students to be tested.

Purpose of the test

According to the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the maiden test will help the Ministry to know the challenges facing learners and the appropriate interventions to be given to them afterwards.

Furthermore, parents and guardians will be given a copy of their ward’s results to know how their children’s weaknesses and strengths. The test will be conducted in subjects Literacy and Numeracy.

Reaction

This news has come far too late for many teachers. As scheduled, the third term was to officially end on Friday, 10th December 2021 for all public basic schools across the country.

Even the University of Cape Coast knew this vacation date and rescheduled their activities for the second semester to suit their students, who are greatly teachers.

With this new development, the majority of the students can no longer report to their study centers on Sunday, 12th December 2022. It is uncertain if UCC will change the schedule of activities for the third time or reverse to the old schedule of activities.
