The all awaited FIFA response to a protest filed by South Africa is finally out. It can be recalled that last month Ghana played South Africa in an all-important fixture that would see the winner top the group and qualify for the last round of the Qatar World Cup qualifiers. Ghana won the match by a solitary goal from captain Andre Dede Ayew.
The goal came via the penalty spot which the South African Football Association claim was not a penalty. The Football association also claimed that they were given a rather not cordial treatment alongside a long journey to Cape Coast. In a protest to the World Football Association, the South African FA called for investigations as they believed the match was fixed.
After a long wait, FIFA has written to the Ghana Football Association saying that SAFA had no case and that the protest lacked merit. This will be a hard blow for South Africa who have fallen twice this year to Ghana. they were first denied an AFCON place by Ghana and now a possible World Cup place.
For Ghana it will be all joy as well as the need to train and play well so as to avoid having to fight on the last day to quality. Ghana is set to meet any of the top 5 ranked teams in Africa that have qualified. The teams include Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria and Senegal.Â
