The Former President of the Republic of Ghana and the main contender of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2020 presidential elections from the side of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has met with the President of The Gambia, His Excellency Adama Barrow as part of a team of election observers from the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA) at the State House in Banjul.
Among other things, Mr. John Dramani Mahama who is the head of the Election Observer Mission deployed to The Gambia, noted that the mandate of the mission is to observe how everything unfolds as the country prepares for their upcoming December 4th Presidential elections, the very first election to be held since the impasse in 2016.
He commended the National Security forces for their commitment in ensuring peaceful conduct of major and important election process and praised them for providing adequate security for all the candidates in their period of campaigning. He also said these measures have also prevented every form of violence in the electioneering period.
He however said that although they had engagements with key personalities including the ICE, Chief Justice, and the Inspector General of Police, their role is inadequate to ensure that peace prevails throughout the conduct of the elections. He said that even though they encouraged them to deliver on their duties to ensure a peaceful and transparent election, it is inadequate.
He stated that the responsibility for ensuring a peaceful, transparent and fair elections ultimately rests upon Gambians. He said that since this is the first election after the 2016 impasse, the whole is watching and hopeful that the country delivers things right and consolidate its democratic gains.
Some Ghanaians reacted massively to this historic speech given to The Gambian Media and that indeed John Mahama is a President ruling from opposition. His outstanding and unparalleled political accomplishments have been noticed in the corner of the world.
They can’t wait for Mahama to come back to government to correct and straighten all the crooked things of this current government.
