Takoradi, Nov. 26, GNA – Ms Francisca Ansah, the Western Regional Manager of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has appealed to the government to consider a reduction in the E-levy tax.
She also called for attention to the 15 per cent taxes on services as the country worked to ensure the growth of the private sector, in particular, increase more jobs and create a country that is economically attractive to business development and viability.
Ms Ansah, at the Association’s Annual General Meeting, said such increases coupled with a bad road network would hamper growth and new prospects in the business arena and may affect the overall aim of creating jobs and preparing Ghana from Aid.
Over the years, the GNCCI continued to be a mouthpiece for businesses in the country.
The AGM centered on “The Role of the Private Sector In Enterprise Western Region.”
The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, who was the special guest commended the GNCCI for continuous collaboration to enhance the economic growth of the Region.
“I would like to commend the Chamber for improving the business environment which has enabled businesses to stay competitive.”
He said the government was focused on advancing and supporting business growth through the creation of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme to offer assistance to both private and public organizations.
The Minister noted how the GNCCI was a key stakeholder in both rural and urban economic development through job creation in line with creating prosperity and equal opportunities for all.
He encouraged the youth to take advantage of the “Youstart” initiative which is expected to raise two billion to help young entrepreneurs.
Mr Darko-Mensah also called on them to form partnerships, take up opportunities in the One District, One Factory Initiative… Fully embrace the initiative to enhance economic activities in the Region.
He said the government appreciated the important role of the private sector and would, therefore, continue to support, create the needed environment and cooperation to achieve more economic fortunes for the country.
