Ghanaian singer Kuami Eugene has described the rap music industry as not as lucrative as many perceive it.
According to him, rappers do live and thrive on the hype they get but the same cannot be said about the amount of money they make from just rapping.
In an interview with OnePlay Africa, Kuami Eugene said his decision to ditch rapping for singing was hinged on his personal assessment which revealed that rappers do not make as much as singers.
“There’s no money in rapping. The rappers live on hype. It’s hard to make money from just rapping, he said amidst laughter.
Meanwhile, Sarkodie is regarded as one of the successful rappers in Africa who has made quite a name and fortune for himself from speaking on a fast beat, throwing punchlines and rhyming words.
As difficult as rapping maybe, Sarkodie has manoeuvred his way through even though he raps mainly in his Twi dialect.
On the flip side, Kuami Eugene is currently the hottest artiste in Ghana and has also made some prestige and money for himself.
One could make the comparison between Kuami Eugene and his contemporaries who are rappers and arrive at the unequivocal conclusion that singing pays more than rapping. No?
