Oct. 5 (UPI) — Jessica Biel has joined the cast of the Hulu series Candy.
The 39-year-old actress will star in and executive produce the new true crime drama, Deadline reported Tuesday.
Biel replaces Elisabeth Moss in the lead role of Candy Montgomery. The Hollywood Reporter said Moss had to exit the project due to scheduling conflicts.
Candy centers on the real-life story of Montgomery, a Texas woman who killed her friend Betty Gore in 1980. The series explores why Montgomery, a wife and mother living in the suburbs of Dallas, killed her friend from church with an ax.
The new show hails from Universal Studio Group’s UCP and Disney’s 20th Television. Robin Veith wrote the pilot script and will executive produce with Biel, Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Michelle Purple and Michael Uppendahl.
HBO Max is also developing a series about Montgomery, titled Love and Death, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Lily Rabe.
Biel’s previous TV roles include Mary Camden on 7th Heaven and Cora Tannetti in The Sinner Season 1. She also starred on the Facebook Watch series Limetown.
