Oct. 4 (UPI) — A cyclone continues to batter Oman, causing heavy flooding and killing at least 13 people, including a young boy.
Tropical Cyclone Shaheen made landfall in Oman on Sunday and has affected Iran, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
Seven deaths were announced Monday afternoon by Oman’s National Committee for Emergency Management, but further details weren’t given.
It’s known that a young boy drowned in the storm, two people died in a landslide and two bodies were found after going missing.
Iran state television said rescuers found the body of one of five fishermen who went missing from a fishing village near the Pakistan border.
The storm arrived with strong winds reaching 93 mph and waves up to 32 feet high, with the storm leaving flooded roadways, landslides and dust storms in its wake.
At least dozens of people in the Sistan and Baluchestan province of Iran were treated for injuries. Aid agencies are housing more than 2,700 people in emergency shelters.
The storm was downgraded to a tropical storm around 8:30 p.m. local time.
