Sept. 30 (UPI) — Netflix is giving a glimpse of the new series Maya and the Three.
The streaming service shared a trailer for the Mesoamerican-inspired fantasy series Thursday.
Zoe Saldana voices the titular Maya, a warrior princess who embarks on an epic journey with three warriors, Chimi (Stephanie Beatriz), Rico (Allen Maldonado) and Picchu (Gabriel Iglesias).
Maya (Saldana) and her friends set out to stop Lord Mictlan (Alfred Molina), the god of war, and fulfill an ancient prophecy.
Diego Luna, Gael GarcÃa Bernal, Rita Moreno, Kate del Castillo, Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, Rosie Perez, Queen Latifah and Wyclef Jean also have voice roles.
Maya and the Three is inspired by Aztec, Maya and Inca mythology. The series is written, created and directed by The Book of Life writer and director Jorge Gutierrez.
Maya and the Three premieres Oct. 22 on Netflix.
Saldana is known for playing Neytiri in Avatar and Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She most recently played Gamora in the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame.
