The Youth Employment Agency will on Thursday, 30th September 2021, host a day’s job fair in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.

The fair is to decrease the unemployment rate which seems to be a major challenging factor confronting the country.

The event will be hosted at the BACA Event center and will be opened from 8 am till 5 pm.

The Eastern Regional Director for the Youth Employment Agency, Jerry Osei Opoku, said the fair dubbed “Job, Career and Entrepreneurial Fair” will be an all-inclusive opportunity for persons in the private and public sector.

According to him, the main agenda is to create an enabling environment for the masses to secure jobs.

He noted this is an opportunity for cooperative bodies and those seeking job opportunities to meet and look out for a satisfactory outcome at end of the day.

According to him, engagements have been made with state and private organizations within the Eastern Region.

He also revealed that the jobs are not going to be mainly, white color jobs and hence, the need for all persons to be considered in the fair. He also stated that persons in the informal sector do not need a specified qualification to qualify for the fair.

“The fair is not basically about white jobs or office jobs. It has no qualification basis. People in the vocational field can attend the program. A lot of companies are looking for factory hand workers, cleaners, tillers, house helps and so, it doesn’t have a barrier for anyone” he revealed.

He entreated the applicants to have a dimensional and convincing curriculum vitae to meet the requirements of the employers.

He noted that everything will be free of charge and that, nothing will be taken from anyone.

Touching on the career aspect of the fair, he noted that a lot of career consultants have been engaged to speak with the job seekers and train them to be prepared for the job market.

Mr. Jerry Opoku noted that persons with entrepreneurial ideas will be allowed to discuss the emoluments of their projects, whiles the YEA will also study the viability of the business and support the scheme through financial planning and arrangements by private institutions.

The first Job fair was recently held in Accra at the Accra International Conference Centre where many unemployed youths besieged the arena and erupted some of the kind of chaotic scenes which got some people to return home with injuries.

Mr. Jerry, said this is the first of its kind in the Eastern Region, and that talks are underway to hold such fairs every quarter of the year at the regional and national levels.
