Sept. 17 (UPI) — The Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast is weighing in on the show’s “joyful” series finale.
Series co-creator Dan Goor and stars Andy Samberg, Stephanie Beatriz, Melissa Fumero, Andre Braugher, Joe Lo Truglio, Dirk Blocker and Joel McKinnon Miller appeared Thursday on Late Night with Seth Meyers following the final episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a police procedural comedy series that follows the detectives of Brooklyn’s 99th Precinct. The series originally aired for five seasons on Fox before being canceled and subsequently picked up at NBC. The show ended Thursday after eight seasons.
On Late Night, Beatriz, who played Rosa Diaz, said it felt good for Brooklyn Nine-Nine to go out on its own terms.
“It was amazing. I think we all feel exceptionally proud of the work that we did this last season,” the actress said.
“And like, with all the strange challenges and the, like, all of the challenges — the writing challenges, the acting challenges, the crew challenges, but it felt really, I don’t know … It felt really joyful the way that we finished it,” she added.
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast and crew worked together to complete the season despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Samburg, who played Jake Peralta, said the show’s final table read was “hamstrung” by the health crisis.
“It was on Zoom. Last day together we were in the middle of shooting when we did it, so we were all in our dressing rooms on Zoom. So you could, like, hear people laughing across the hall and stuff. But you know, inevitably someone has like a terrible delay and it ruins it,” he said with a laugh.
Fumero, who played Amy Santiago, said goodbye to the show in an Instagram post Thursday.
“I cannot wait for you all to see this final #Brooklyn99 episode. It’s beautiful and so so funny. It has a million Easter eggs for you. It was made with a lot of love, and laughter, and joy, and tears,” the actress wrote.
“I will never forget this job and what it has meant to me personally and professionally. Thank you to the fans of this show for sticking with us, and for loving us so loudly. I truly hope you love this finale,” she said.
