Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Sports Ministry would have a meeting with Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac to discuss his salary before naming him Ghana coach.
Ghanasoccernet.com sources have said that Rajevac is leading the race to succeed Charles Akonnor whose tenure came to an end disappointingly this week.
Akonnor was booted out on Monday, a week after a shambolic Black Stars performance in Johannesburg resulted in their first defeat to South Africa in a competitive in over 20 years.
With Akonnor gone, GFA tasked a committee headed by vice-president Mark Addo and with support by Dr Randy Abbey to find a new coach for the senior national team.
And it appears, the committee has settled on a coach. Milovan Rajevac who did a great job for Ghana between August 2008 and September 2010 is leading the race to be named Black Stars coach for the first time.
However, Rajevac’s salary has to be discussed by himself, senior members of the GFA and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif before the announcement becomes official.
Ghanasoccernet.com understands the Serbian would earn more than Akonnor who took home $25,000, and even that Ghana struggled in paying with the former Kotoko gaffer owed 13 months arrears.
The meeting to agree on the amount involved in the expected two-year deal is necessary because the government pays the national team coaches.
Milovan took Ghana to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations and the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup in 2010, before rejecting a four-year deal from GFA for a lucrative offer in Suadi Arabia.
Rajevac hasn’t been active since 2019 when he was sacked by Thailand but his achievements with Ghana makes him popular in the West African country.
