An educationist, James Courage Awuah, has called for the immediate removal of the Chief Executive Officer and other top officials at the West African Examination Council (WAEC) following the leakage of questions in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Mr. Awuah said the leakage of examination questions every year has become a norm because persons responsible have not been punished for their involvement.

He suggested that the overall head at WAEC must resign with the immediate effect if he was a responsible leader.

WAEC on Wednesday rescheduled two papers in the ongoing West WASSCE amid fears of leaked examination questions.

WAEC noted that it has detected evidence of possible exam leakage on social media and on “rogue” websites prior to today’s exams.

“The cheating social media groups were in full swing prior to the conduct of the mathematics and the English language papers on 9th and 13th September,” the Head of Council’s Test Administration Division, George Ohene-Mantey, said.

Mr. Ohene-Mantey said, “the Council’s monitoring revealed the circulation of numerous versions of questions, both printed and handwritten.”

“After the administration of the test, careful scrutiny of the several versions [of suspected leaks] received indicated that extracts of parts of the questions in mathematics elective two and section A of English Language two were circulated on social media platforms.”

Mr. Awuah in reaction said if persons managing WAEC had integrity, there would have resigned from their jobs.

In his view, WAEC has disappointed Ghanaians and put the candidates sitting for the exams in psychological trauma.

He advised the schools to provide counselling for their respective students and prepare them for the next papers, and not be discouraged by the cancellation of the papers.

He insisted that the integrity of WAEC has been tainted for years, and it was about time they take steps to redeem their sinking image.
