The Ghana Badminton Association (BAG) has presented medals won at the Benin International (U-35) and the All Africa U-15 championship to Professor Peter Twumasi Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).

Speaking at the medal presentation yesterday at the Accra Sports Stadium, the NSA Director General congratulated the management and playing body for their splendid performance and hoisting high the flag of Ghana.

The team won 19 medals at the end of the competition in the Seniors and Juniors categories which served as a qualification series for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Ghana won 18 bronze medals and one Silver medal to end the competition as one of the best performing teams at the competition.

Prof. Twumasi, encouraged the team to do more and pledged to give an amount of Gh¢10,000 to support BAG.

He encouraged the team to go all out and qualify for the Commonwealth Games and urged them to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

The Director-General reiterated his continuous support to the federation to participate in the upcoming qualifying series saying that, “the team’s success at the competition proves that sports is reforming in the country”.

Mr. Evans Yeboah, the President of BAG thanked the NSA and promised to win more medals in their subsequent tournaments.

Mr. Yeboah, who led the team to this historic success in an international competition said, “Our team’s overall results were modest and did not live up to expectation, we placed in these 2022 commonwealth competitions, but all of you present today put on excellent performances and your achievements are indisputable”.

“We also achieved Africa’s second-best player at the tournament in the person of Francis Obeng Shang- the last notable of this was 10 years ago in 2011 in Mauritius.”

The BAG President called on corporate entities to come on board to support the discipline to continue to make Ghana proud at the international front.
