The Ministry of Transport has charged the newly inaugurated Governing Board of Metro Mass Transit Limited to bring their expertise to bear by introducing innovative measures to turn around the transport company.
According to the Ministry, the challenges that have bedevilled the company over the years must be addressed with the aid of the governing board.
At a short ceremony to inaugurate the nine-member Governing Board in Accra on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Frederick Adom Obeng, urged the governing Board to take up the challenge and ensure that the operations of the Metro Mass Transit Company are boosted.
According to him, the company over the years has faced several challenges including a drastic reduction in the operational fleet of vehicles, frequent breakdowns, and rising operational cost.
He said it is the expectation of the Ministry of Transport that the new Board will take up this challenge and ensure that the company is revived to win back its share of the market and expand its services.
Members of the Governing Board of Metro Mass Transit Limited are Hon. Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, Chairman, Mr. Albert Adu-Boahene, Member, Mr. Francis Kofi-Nunoo, Member, Mr. Robert Karikari-Darko, Member, and Mrs. Bernadette Addo Dankwa, Member. The rest are Dr. Joseph Okine Afrane, Member, Nana Yaw Mantey, Member, Mr. Marcus Deo Dake, Member and Mad. Angelina T. A. Mensah, Member.
Chairman of the Board, Hon. Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo said the Board and Management of the company would work together to ensure that the task at hand is collectively worked on to achieve their objectives.
He said some of the buses have mechanical challenges while others need spare parts to be revived and put back on the road.
