Some job seekers at YEA’s recent job fair in Accra

CHIEF EXECUTIVE Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Justin Koduah Frimpong, has revealed the agency will soon open a new portal for people with business ideas to upload them on the internet platform.

Speaking at the final day of the Job and Career Fair held recently in Accra, the YEA boss said the portal would provide an avenue for job seekers.

Speaking to the media during the final day of the Job fair, CEO for the Youth Employment Agency, Justin Koduah Frimpong, disclosed the portal, when opened, would offer businesses the opportunity to grow.

“We realised that the people we saw here (at the job fair) were more than the vacancies available. Also, some of them do not meet the requirements – thus not all of them will make it through the process successfully. But we believe that there are young men and women with wonderful ideas.”

“To help these, we will open a portal from next week to receive business ideas from the youth. We will then screen them and reach out to the ones who catch our attention for support,” he stated.

Mr. Frimpong said he felt bad about the huge number of unemployed youth who massed up at the job fair held Thursday at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) seeking jobs.

“I felt sad. To be honest, looking at the number of youth who were there and the level of desperation that set in, I really realised that as an agency and as a country, we need to do more.”

“Although, it is understandable that we are a developing country, year after year the number of youth who want to join the labour market [is huge], which is why we are having this challenge,” the YEA boss indicated.

He said the YEA’s job fair was the right thing for the start in partly addressing the issue of unemployment in the country, and pledged to scale up the process.
