Born Michael Owusu Addo, professionally known as Sarkodie aka Obidi Pon Bidi per assertions made by ghgossip.com is on the move to be the next Ghanaian artist to win a Grammy award aside from Fuse ODG.

Ever since our Nigerian counterparts won from the prestigious recording academy, Ghanaian stars like Sarkodie have been slammed by fans and critics on social media over his inability to also grab even a nomination from the platform. Although Fuse ODG became the first Ghanaian to win a Grammy award, many believe that the likes of Sarkodie and other A-list artists are also up for the award.

Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy broke international boundaries after winning from the recording academy earlier this year. In 2020, Burna Boy also secured a nomination in the Grammy awards for the Best World Album. He was nominated alongside Altin Gün for Gece, Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted By Jules Buckley for What Heat, Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet for Fanm D’Ayiti, and Angelique Kidjo for Celia.

Unfortunately, Burna Boy lost to Angelique Kidjo in 2020 but that never stopped him from moving forward with his music. Oluwa dropped his fifth studio album titled “Twice As Tall”. The album was released on August 14, 2020, by Spaceship Entertainment, Atlantic Records, and Warner . Recording sessions took place in 2020, with Burna Boy, American singer and songwriter Diddy, and Mama Burna Bose Ogulu serving as the record’s executive producers. This album actually paved the way for him to win at the 63rd Grammy Awards as the Best World Album.

His victory sparked a lot of controversies on social media, media houses, and news portals as many express their disappointments in Sarkodie and his colleagues for their inability to also grab an award on the platform.

Truth be told, Sarkodie has done more in the music industry than most people think. Known to be one of the most decorated rappers in the scene, Sarkodie won the Independent Award for Best Song-Rap or Hip-Hop at the BET awards in 2014. The rapper also won the Best International Flow on the same platform in 2019.

Sarkodie also won two awards for the singles “Love Rocks” and “Enemies”. and base on his consistency in Ghana music Sarkodie won the artiste of the decade award in the just ended Vodafone Ghana music awards 2019.

For the record, Sarkodie has received 100 awards from 176 nominations, including 24 Ghana Awards. Makye, his debut studio album, won him three awards at both the 4syte TV  Video Awards and Ghana  Awards. The album also earned him a nomination at the 2010 MTV Africa  Awards.

With regards to his recently released album dubbed ‘No Pressure’ which consists of mostly Hip-hop vibes with collaborations from some of the top international stars in the game. Sarkodie might be on the move to grab a nomination from Grammys and probably win as well. The album explores Sarkodie’s growth in the music industry over the past decade. However, this new body of work came with collaborations from artists across the United States, United Kingdom, and various regions in Africa.

Currently, the songs are doing so well on all music platforms but Ghanaians are refusing to endorse and support the rapper in attaining higher heights on behalf of his country. With these achievements, one will not be surprised if Sarkodie grabs a nomination for Grammys in a year or two.
