Nine foreign envoys accredited by their respective countries to serve in Ghana have visited the Jubilee House over the past two days to present their credentials to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The presentation of credentials is a formal ceremony to mark the beginning of the ambassadorship of the envoys.

They are the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Ms Harriet Thompson; the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ibok-Ekwe Ibas; the Ambassador of Germany to Ghana, Daniel Krull; Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, Jose Javier Gutierrez Blanco-Navarrete and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ghana, JeroenVerheul.

The rest are the Ambassadors of Norway, Ingrid Mollestad; Angola, Joao Baptista Dominos Quiosa, Hungary; Tamas Endre Feher, and Irchard Razaaly, representative of the European Union (EU).

The discussions between the President and the envoys, who visited separately, centered on the diplomatic and economic ties between Ghana and their respective governments, security issues, terrorism, trade and investment, among others.

President Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to engage the rest of the world on the basis of trade and investments, as opposed to the usual support and donations from development partners.

The envoys pledged to work tirelessly to deepen the relationship and the ties between Ghana and their respective countries and develop mutually beneficial cooperation between their governments and citizens and the Ghanaian people.

While some commended Ghana on its election to the United Nations Security Council, others praised the government for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

President Akufo-Addo welcomed them, congratulated them on their appointments and expressed his readiness to work closely with them to make their duty tour a success.

“I am expecting us to work very closely together and all the officials of the Presidency are all at your disposal to facilitate your work here and help you carry out your duties effectively,” President Akufo-Addo told the envoys.
