Member of Parliament for Juaboso in the Western North Region of Ghana Kwabena Mintah Akandoh is of the belief that the government does not prioritize the safety of the Ghanaian people in the fight against COVID-19.
According to him, this is why the government hasn’t made any effort to purchase vaccines at a very competitive cost for the country and its citizens but is relying on the benevolence of other countries and international organizations.
“What I’ve learnt from all these is that the government was waiting for benevolent people to donate vaccines to the people of Ghana that is why no effort has been made to secure vaccines for the country.
“We gave ourselves a target of vaccinating 20 million people but till date, we have not vaccinated even 30% of the number we said we will vaccinate”.
To him, it’s high time the government stops thinking of the selfish gains it can make from COVID-19 and think about the health and wellbeing of the Ghanaian people.
“Let’s stop doing business with the COVID-19 and focus on the health of the people of Ghana,” he said in an interview on OKAY FM.
