Head coach of South Africa, Hugo Broos has expressed delight in the team’s determination after defying all odds to beat Ghana in the World Cup qualifiers.
The Bafana Bafana needed an 82nd-minute goal from Bongokuhle Hlongwane to secure their first win of the qualifiers, having drawn their first match against Zimbabwe.
“What I saw today, I saw a team with confidence who played a very good game. There was determination, there was a will to win, there was discipline and that is what I like,” he said after the game.
“We will see if we can go on like this and make progress like we did now in this week and we will see where we’ll end at the end of the qualifying race,” added Hugo Broos.
The victory sends South Africa top of Group G after two rounds of games.
The Bafana Bafana next face Ethiopia in a doubleheader in the next international window in October.
The winner of Group G advances to the play-offs stage before grabbing a ticket to Qatar 2022.
