The future of Ghana’s head coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, hangs in the balance after the shambolic showing against South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers.

Black Stars were handed their first defeat in the qualifications by South Africa on Monday at the FNB Stadium.

The Bafana Bafana recorded a deserving 1-0 victory to go top of Group G with the only goal scored by Bongokuhle Hlongwane.

Before the South Africa match, the Black Stars had beaten Ethiopia 1-0 in the opener but many Ghanaians weren’t enthused by the performance of the team.

This has seen connoisseurs call for the head of Akonnor as they believe the former Ghana captain is not cut out to lead the Black Stars subsequently.

Akonnor was appointed in February 2020 replacing Kwasi Appiah and has since not been impressive in his outings with the Ghana team.

Since Akonnor took over, he has played 10 games, won 4, lost 4, and has drawn twice across the period.

The Black Stars are expected to lift the ultimate at next year’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Ghana has not won the flagship African football tournament after almost four decades since its last win in 1982.
