Sept. 3 (UPI) — Kate Walsh is returning to Grey’s Anatomy.
The 53-year-old actress confirmed in a video Thursday that she will reprise Dr. Addison Montgomery in Season 18 of the ABC series.
“Well, well, well, would you look who it is. That’s right, my loves, Dr. Addison Montgomery is coming back to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, and I’m so excited to be home again joining Shonda, Ellen and the rest of the incredible cast,” Walsh said, referencing series creator Shonda Rhimes and star Ellen Pompeo.
“This season — 18, whew! — Just wait until you see what she has in store for you. The new season premieres September 30 on ABC,” she added.
Walsh first appeared in Season 1 as Addison, a neonatal surgeon and the estranged wife of Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).
Walsh left Grey’s Anatomy after Season 3 to star on the spinoff series Private Practice but appeared as a special guest in Seasons 4-8. Private Practice aired on ABC from 2007 to 2013.
Kate Burton will also return in Season 18 as Ellis Grey, the late mother of Meredith Grey (Pompeo). Peter Gallagher has joined the cast as Dr. Alan Hamilton, someone from Ellis’ past.
Season 18 will premiere Sept. 30 at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
