French giants Stade Rennes wanted to sign Black Stars defender, Alexander Djiku on the summer transfer deadline day according to reports.
Ghanasoccernet.com understands that Rennes made contact with Djiku as they wanted to complete a move before the window shuts on Tuesday, August 31.
The French club lost three first-team centre-backs this summer and were desperate to bring in Djiku to stabilize their defense.
But an agreement could not be reached and the highly-regarded centre-back remains a Strasbourg player.
Having signed from Caen in 2019, Djiku has a long list of admirers in France and other European countries.
Earlier in the window, he was linked with a move to Real Betis in Spain.
Djiku is currently with the Black Stars preparing for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.
