Aug. 29 (UPI) — Tropical Storm Julian picked up some strength after forming in the Atlantic Ocean Sunday morning, forecasters said.
In its 9 p.m. GMT update, the National Hurricane Center said Julian was located about 815 miles southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland and about 970 miles west of the Azores. It was carrying maximum sustained winds of 60 mph and moving northeast at 24 mph.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles from Julian’s center.
The NHC said Julian is expected to strengthen some Sunday night before beginning to weaken and likely becoming post-tropical by Monday evening.
Julian is the tenth named storm of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season.
