On Saturday, August 28, Justin Bieber revealed that he had broken the all-time Spotify monthly listener record, earning 83.3 million monthly listeners and holding the most monthly listeners in the platform’s history.
The Weeknd, another Canadian singer, came in second with 74.53 million monthly listeners, while Ed Sheeran came in third with 72.41 million monthly listeners.
Dua Lipa currently has the most streams on the platform, with 65.5 million monthly listeners, while Doja Cat is close behind with 60.84 million.
Ariana Grande held the previous record of around 82 million monthly listeners for quite some time.
Though some music fans have begun to refer to Bieber as the “Prince of Pop,” implying that he is the heir apparent to Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson’s music continues to set new standards more than a decade after his untimely death. His song “Thriller” was certified 34X Platinum this week.
