Jorginho was named UEFA’s men’s footballer of the year after becoming only the tenth player in history to win both the Champions League and the European Championship in the same season.

The midfielder played a key role in Chelsea’s second Champions League title in May, before helping Italy win the Euros for the second time two months later.

Chelsea also won the men’s coach of the year award, with Thomas Tuchel receiving it after leading the team to a Champions League final victory over Manchester City in Porto.

Tuchel took over at Stamford Bridge in January, after Frank Lampard had led the team to the knockout stage, and oversaw victories over Atletico Madrid, Porto, and Real Madrid on the way to the final.

Jorginho won the men’s player of the year award ahead of Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Chelsea teammate N’Golo Kante, though the France international did receive the consolation prize of men’s Champions League midfielder of the year.

Tuchel beat out Pep Guardiola, who led Manchester City to the Premier League and Carabao Cup titles, and Italy manager Roberto Mancini.

Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy also took home a trophy, as he was named UEFA’s men’s Champions League goalkeeper of the year.

Ruben Dias of Manchester City won the men’s Champions League defender of the year award, while Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund won the striker’s trophy.

After winning the treble last season, Barcelona dominated the women’s category.

Lluis Cortes was named UEFA women’s coach of the year, while Alexia Putellas – who scored the game’s winning goal – was named player of the year.

Barcelona’s second goal in their 4-0 Champions League final rout of Chelsea was named women’s player of the year.

Putellas was also named women’s Champions League midfielder of the year, while teammates Jennifer Hermoso and Sandra Panos were named forward and goalkeeper of the year, respectively.

Irene Paredes, the women’s defender of the year, was the only non-Barcelona player to win a trophy. The centre-back, however, has since joined the Spanish club from Paris Saint-Germain.

Denmark defender Simon Kjaer and the medical team that saved Christian Eriksen’s life after he collapsed during their opening game of Euro 2020 in June received the UEFA president’s award.
