Top 10 Most Streamed Ghanaian Artistes On Boomplay Presently

Boomplay has released a list of the Top 10 all-time most streamed artists in Ghana on their digital platform.

Sarkodie is in a comfortable lead with over a 35million streams so far, followed closely by Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale in that order with 30.3m and 20.9m respectively. Newcomer Gyakie is also doing wonders on Boomplay despite bursting into the mainstream recently.

Boomplay is a media streaming and download service developed by Transsnet Limited. The service was first launched in Nigeria in 2015 by TECNO Mobile, Transsion Holdings.

Boomplay has a freemium and subscription based service; basic features are free with advertisements or limitations, while additional features, such as download for offline play and ad-free listening are offered via paid subscriptions.

The service is currently available for Web, Android and iOS use. As of August 3, 2018, Boomplay recorded 10 million installations off the Google Play App store. It currently has 75 million users (Wikipedia).

Meanwhile, Sarkodie seems to have fallen out of favour with a section of Ghanaians with his demeanour when he was interviewed in Nigeria while in Africa’s most populous country to promote his No Pressure album.

During his media tour on one of Nigeria’s top radio stations, Nigerian presenter Osi Suave opined that Ghanaians have not celebrated Sarkodie enough considering his enormous contribution to Ghanaian and African music.

“I think you do not get enough credit as you’re supposed to. I don’t know if it’s the way the Ghanaian music industry is structured or set up. Or generally, people just, you know how maybe when you sing too much to somebody, ‘oh he would always put out fire music and they tend to move on,” said Suave.

“You know from the BET’s to the things you have done especially putting the Ghanaian music industry on the map, I don’t think you get credit enough because when you look at the way Nigerians actually celebrate their own. When there is a David or a Wiz, I look at Ghana, and it’s just ‘its Sarkodie and…”
