‘Behind the Monsters’: Shudder to explore horror icons in new docuseries

Aug. 17 (UPI) — Shudder has announced a new six-part docuseries titled Behind the Monsters that will explore famous horror icons such as Freddy Kruger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers and more.

Candyman, Chucky and Pinhead will also be featured subjects on the series.

Each episode will explore a different horror icon and will feature discussions with filmmakers and actors from the original films.

The Candyman episode will include interviews with original Candyman director Bernard Rose, stars Tony Todd and Virginia Madsen and new Candyman director Nia DaCosta.

Chucky’s installment will have Child’s Play creator and writer Don Mancini, director Tom Holland and stars Catherine Hicks and Brad Dourif who voices the murderous doll.

The Jason Voorhees chapter will feature Kane Hodder who was an actor and stuntman on multiple Friday the 13th films along with special effects creator Tom Savini. The Michael Myers episode will include actor Nick Castle and Halloween (2018) stunt actor James Jude Courtney.

Freddy Krueger’s installment will have A Nightmare on Elm Street stars Heather Langenkamp and Lin Shaye alongside special effects designer Jim Doyle. The Pinhead chapter will have an interview with Hellraiser actor Doug Bradley.

Drac and Swan Boulet, Ashlee Blackwell, Ben Kissel, Henry Zebrowski, Ryan Turek, Jeffrey Reddick, April Wolfe, David Bruckner and Peaches Christ will also offer their expertise on the show.

Behind the Monsters will premiere on Oct. 26 on Shudder, with new episodes coming out weekly. Gabrielle Binkley and Anthony Uro wrote and directed the series, which is produced by Stage 3 Productions.
