Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko last night struggled to get a hospital bed for one of his members of staff who he said had tested positive for Covid–19. Taking to his social media, Sonko highlighted how his team had desperately done rounds within the city in search of admission.
“Covid-19 is serious. We have checked all city hospitals for beds. Luckily, we finally found one at Ruai Family Hospital. Have your masks on and sanitise,” he said.
Sonko said they had unsuccessfully sought admission at various medical facilities within Nairobi, but most were full.
This comes at a time health experts have warned that the pandemic is not yet under control.

Sonko went live on social media at 1am shortly after his patient was taken in for admission at the facility, painting the gloomy situation in the city’s health facilities as a result of high infection rates.
The aide could be seen receiving supplemental oxygen from medics. According to the facility, only four beds were available at the moment.

Last week saw the highest number of tests reported by the Ministry of Health, with the national test positivity rate ranging between nine per cent and 17 per cent.

Kenya is among African countries experiencing the deadly fourth Delta covid variant, together with Algeria and Tunisia.
The country has recorded high surges in Covid–19 cases and deaths in recent weeks, with Nairobi County leading in the number of cases nationally. ?
