His comments come after the dancehall act, Shatta Wake revealed that Ghana has no genre representing the country and can be related to all music works in the country.
He made this known when he returned back from his trip to Miami amid his preparation for the release of his Gift Of God album.
Shatta Wale proposed that Ghanaian musicians must identify one genre that can be attributed to all music works from our part of the world.
He said that this will go a long way to give the Ghanaian music industry the global attention we have long desired.
In reaction to that, Akwaboah said he felt disrespected when the dancehall artist made this statement because, since the beginning of music in Ghana, Highlife has always spearheaded all music works in the country.
He said Shatta Wale has disrespected the likes of him, Dada Hafco, Bisa K’Dei, Kumi Guitar among other Highlife artists for uttering such statements.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM with Abeiku Santana, Akwaboah said Highlife artists are not given the support they need to be able to make names on the international market but for the record, Highlife is the original representation of Ghana .
